Your Go-To Guide for Looking and Feeling Natural on Camera

Fall mini sessions are one of my favorite parts of the year—the cute set ups, the cozy vibes, the genuine moments captured in such a short amount of time. But the #1 question I get every year? “What should we wear?”

Don't worry—I’ve got you covered. Here’s everything you need to know to look amazing and feel confident at your What A Natural fall session.

1. Think earth tones & warm neutrals 🍁

Creams, rust, olive, mustard, beige, dusty rose, burnt orange, or soft brown tones photograph beautifully against fall backgrounds (and Florida palm trees pretending it's autumn). Avoid neon or super-saturated colors—they can reflect weirdly on skin.

2. Coordinate, don’t match

You don’t need everyone in identical outfits. Instead, choose 2–3 complementary colors and mix textures and patterns sparingly. For example:

  • Dad: olive green shirt + khakis

  • Mom: flowy burnt orange dress

  • Kids: neutral-toned overalls, cream sweaters, or plaid shirts that tie in both colors

3. Go for textures over prints

Chunky knits, linen, denim, corduroy, and soft cottons add visual interest without being distracting. If you want a print, keep it subtle (think dainty florals or soft plaid).

4. Comfortable = confident

If your toddler hates collars or your dress keeps slipping—skip it. You’ll look your best when you feel your best. Choose pieces that allow you to move, snuggle, sit, and dance a little if the moment calls for it. (It probably will.)

5. Avoid logos, graphics, or characters

These can date your photos and pull attention away from your beautiful faces. Keep it classic and timeless so you’ll still love your photos years from now.

BONUS: My go-to shops

Here are a few spots I love for camera-friendly, natural looks:

  • H&M Basics

  • Old Navy / Gap (especially for families)

  • Baltic Born / Vici for mama dresses

  • Amazon for quick finds (message me for links—I got you!)

Final tip? Don’t forget the little details.

Clean shoes, brushed hair, and empty pockets (yes, even the toddler’s snack stash!) can make a big difference in how polished your photos feel. A quick once-over before your session starts helps everything flow smoothly.
